White House finalizing details to send free COVID tests to Americans soon, report says
(NEXSTAR) – The Biden administration is reportedly one step closer to sending 500 million rapid, at-home COVID-19 tests nationwide.
The White House is working with the U.S. Postal Service to finalize details on delivering the millions of test kits to those who want them, the Washington Post reports.
In the days leading up to Christmas, as the demand for COVID-19 tests began overwhelming some communities, President Joe Biden announced his administration would purchase 500 million at-home testing kits. Americans who want one of the free testing kits delivered to their home will be able to request them via a website that has not yet been made available.
During a Thursday press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said more details regarding the plan to provide these free tests are expected as soon as Friday.
“As soon as there are more details to report, we will let you all know. That’s what we’re working on right now,” she commented. “We don’t want to put the website up before we know we can provide – even through pre-orders – tests, as people want to request them.”
The White House did not immediately return Nexstar’s request for comment.
This comes as the U.S. faces a surge of cases, largely due to the omicron variant. Although health experts say omicron appears to cause less severe disease and lead to fewer hospitalizations, its rapid spread indicates that it is much more contagious than other variants. Nearly 718,000 COVID cases were reported Tuesday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Omicron is currently the culprit in more than 90% of U.S. cases, a dizzying rise from less than 10% two weeks ago.

In what would be a Canadian first, the premier of Quebec says the province is making plans to tax the unvaccinated in the face of soaring COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations.
But the measure, expected to be well received by parts of a pandemic-weary public, is being panned by critics as a step too far that would be impractical to implement, inevitably challenged in court, and could further sow seeds of societal division.
Premier François Legault dropped the bombshell news of his no-vax tax Tuesday.
“I’m announcing that we are currently working on a health-care contribution that will be charged to all adults in Quebec who refuse to get vaccinated,” Legault told reporters.
“All people who are not vaccinated for non-medical reasons will have to pay a contribution.”

Evidence for a connection between coronavirus disease-19 and exposure to radiofrequency radiation from wireless communications including 5G
Background and Aim:
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) public health policy has focused on the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus and its effects on human health while environmental factors have been largely ignored. In considering the epidemiological triad (agent-host-environment) applicable to all disease, we investigated a possible environmental factor in the COVID-19 pandemic: ambient radiofrequency radiation from wireless communication systems including microwaves and millimeter waves. SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic, surfaced in Wuhan, China shortly after the implementation of city-wide (fifth generation [5G] of wireless communications radiation [WCR]), and rapidly spread globally, initially demonstrating a statistical correlation to international communities with recently established 5G networks. In this study, we examined the peer-reviewed scientific literature on the detrimental bioeffects of WCR and identified several mechanisms by which WCR may have contributed to the COVID-19 pandemic as a toxic environmental cofactor. By crossing boundaries between the disciplines of biophysics and pathophysiology, we present evidence that WCR may: (1) cause morphologic changes in erythrocytes including echinocyte and rouleaux formation that can contribute to hypercoagulation; (2) impair microcirculation and reduce erythrocyte and hemoglobin levels exacerbating hypoxia; (3) amplify immune system dysfunction, including immunosuppression, autoimmunity, and hyperinflammation; (4) increase cellular oxidative stress and the production of free radicals resulting in vascular injury and organ damage; (5) increase intracellular Ca2+ essential for viral entry, replication, and release, in addition to promoting pro-inflammatory pathways; and (6) worsen heart arrhythmias and cardiac disorders.
Relevance for Patients:
In short, WCR has become a ubiquitous environmental stressor that we propose may have contributed to adverse health outcomes of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 and increased the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we recommend that all people, particularly those suffering from SARS-CoV-2 infection, reduce their exposure to WCR as much as reasonably achievable until further research better clarifies the systemic health effects associated with chronic WCR exposure.

Pritzker issues COVID-19 school exclusion executive order
SPRINGFIELD (WGEM) - Gov. JB Pritzker issued a new executive order Tuesday regarding exclusion from school for students and staff who test positive for COVID-19. The order also addresses protocols for those who come in close contact with people testing positive.
Exclusion, in this sense, means schools must prohibit people from the property and extracurricular events regardless of a local health department issuing a quarantine or isolation order. Although, exclusion is not considered quarantine or isolation from school.
Pritzker said schools must exclude students and school personnel with confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases for five to ten days following the onset of symptoms.
Those students or staff members can return to school after five days if they go 24 hours without a fever and see improvement with other COVID-19 symptoms. They would still be required to wear masks at all times around others for another five days.
